Trattoria Simpatico is located in the beautiful town of Jamestown on Conanicut Island, RI. Executive Chef Chris Carruba oversees the kitchen at this lovely hideaway that offers indoor and outdoor seating. The cuisine is billed as “Regional Italian”; however, I might add adjectives like unique, fresh, and possibly global! Over the past seven years Chef Chris has developed this menu into one that reflects not only Italian flavors but offers his guests a wide variety of dishes influenced by many cuisines.
Chris grew up in Portsmouth, Rhode Island and found his home in the kitchen while working at the White Horse Tavern in Newport. He started his career washing dishes and was quickly recognized for his hard work and talent. Chris loved the pace and intensity of working in the kitchen and was eager to learn. After honing his skills at a couple of Rhode Island restaurants, Chris went off on an all expense paid trip to the Middle East; compliments of the US Army. Chris served our country for four years before returning to Rhode Island and reconnecting with a chef that he had previously worked under, Chef Kevin Gaudreau. This time at Trattoria Simpatico. In September of 2006 Chris’ talents were once again rewarded, this time with a promotion to Executive Chef. His creations have earned rave reviews ever since.
When Chef Chris isn’t at work he’s relaxing or working on his new home in Warwick. With summers booked solid at the restaurant he spends the winter “getting caught up on life”. To be in such a position at such a young age is a wonderful thing; I have no doubt that we will be seeing great things from Chris for many years to come!
